The Boat Shop, established in April 2013 after operating as a mobile marine service, is founded by Captain Don Samson, son of Jack Samson, former editor of “Field and Stream” magazine. He grew up in Cape May on a little island, fostering a lifelong passion for boating. His extensive experience includes attending his first boat school in 1976, where he earned certifications in Johnson/Evinrude Outboards, and OMC Stern Drives, highlighting his deep expertise in marine mechanics and service. He has since completed extensive training in both gas and diesel engines, earning certifications for numerous brands including Johnson, Evinrude, Mercury, MerCruiser Stern Drive, Yamaha, Suzuki, Chrysler Marine, MerCruiser/Blue Water Inboards, Crusader Marine, Pleasure Craft Marine, Volvo Penta, Caterpillar, Detroit Diesel, and Cummins Diesel, reflecting his broad technical expertise. Don is also an NMEA Electronics Installer and specializes in custom projects. He spent the majority of his career in South Florida. His experience spans from being an OPV (US Coast Guard) captain for his charter service, to doing customer transits, to the marine mechanic industry. Additionally, he has earned recognition as an APBA World Champion in the National 1 Design category.
